CBD Dog Treats: How Does Cannabidiol for Dogs Work?

Just as CBD is incredibly nutritious for humans, it can be a great addition to our canine family members’ healthy diet. Cannabidiol for dogs is considered one of the most intriguing new pet supplements for a wide range of temporary issues.

Why Cannabidiol For Dogs?

Almost all animals have an endocannabinoid system, and all of our cannabinoid receptors have similar functions. Some research shows that dogs have far more cannabinoid receptors than other mammals tested, including humans.

Many pet parents are also turning to CBD oil since, unlike many traditional veterinary products, CBD has a positive safety profile.

Since endocannabinoid balance can influence our sense of overall well-being, many pet owners choose CBD to alleviate their dogs’ temporary symptoms of mood swings and anxiety. This is especially helpful for pups who get nervous during travel, storms, fireworks, or vet visits.

Other pet parents use cannabidiol for dogs to help with temporary symptoms of inflammation, as well as other issues.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a plant-based cannabinoid, a naturally-occurring organic compound that is not intoxicating. CBD is the hemp plant’s second most abundant cannabinoid. It acts on the body’s own endocannabinoid system.

Our endocannabinoid system in our spine directly influences the parts of our brain responsible for reward processing, as well as the body’s immune system and pain response. The basic functions of this body system have been summarized by some professionals this way: “relax, eat, sleep, forget, and protect”.

There have been no formal studies conducted on the effects of CBD oil on dogs. However, what scientists do know is that cannabinoids interact directly with the endocannabinoid receptors in the nervous system, and this system helps to keep the body in a balanced, healthy state.

There have been studies conducted on the importance of cannabinoids in animals. One study showed that male Starlings (a species of bird) with more CB1 receptors sang more to attract females and had more dominance at nesting sites.

Can CBD Get My Dog High?

Because CBD is non-intoxicating and non-addictive, it can’t get your dog high. In fact, high-CBD industrial hemp cultivars are bred specifically to produce levels of 0.3% THC or less. Often, CBD certificates of analysis reveal that these THC levels are even lower than that, and sometimes undetectable.

Make sure that you purchase hemp CBD oil from a reputable source, and that it does not have any more than 0.3% THC content. THC in high doses has been shown to be toxic to dogs.

How Much CBD Should I Give My Dog?

Some professionals recommend starting out with a CBD oil serving of 0.05 mg/kg once or twice a day per ten pounds of dog. If you don’t observe any changes, increase the serving size after a couple of days. The upper serving limit should be around 1 mg/kg a day per 10 lbs of dog.

Another easy way to give your dog CBD is to purchase CBD dog treats.

We offer CBD dog treats that contain full-spectrum CBD oil, which is supercritical CO2-extracted. Our extraction process allows all of hemp’s terpenes, antioxidants, phytonutrients, flavonoids, and cannabinoids to remain intact. It is through this unique combination of organic compounds that the oil can provide the highest amount of nutritional support.
